Does the Peacock think it's a bride?

www.realweddingphotoworkshop.com

This image was taken at my real wedding workshop in Moundsville West Virginia last month.  We were shooting a bridal session with our bride Janette the day before the wedding and had the amazing opportunity for a peacock to come and put on a show.  We thought for a moment that the peacock wanted to show that Janette wasn't the only beautiful thing dressed all in white...it was an awesome time.

I love old dead trees...at my Rocky Mountain National Park landscape workshop

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken yesterday at my workshop at the Rocky Mountain National Park.  It's so fun to see so many people passing an amazing place like where this tree was and not even think to take a picture of it.  I guess sometimes you just have to have an eye to see some things.

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/500 sec at f/5.0, 18mm at ISO 50, flash did not fire.  Taken at 7:08pm.

This image was taken yesterday at my workshop in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  We literally hiked around in bogs, mud, and marsh to find this spot, but it was worth it.  Today we're doing a model session...can't wait!

New York State of Mind

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in New York last year with the beautiful Megan Ward.  We were about 2 blocks from Times Square and found this construction site set up in the middle of the street.  So using some remote video lighting we simply started shooting while getting honked at, the models were getting cat-called, cars were almost crashing....etc.  Just a normal workshop with me!  Can't wait to get back there!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/60 sec at f/4.5, 16mm at ISO 1600, flash fired.  Taken at 9:07pm.

During the first dance they unleashed a cloud of fog which made it beautiful.  Congrats to Ryan and Janette! We are currently working on finalizing more real wedding workshops for this year and next.

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/200 sec at f/7.1, 19mm at ISO 1000, flash fired.  Taken at 7:14pm.

Landscape Workshops with Jason Lanier- Next Up, Colorado in 2 weeks!

www.funphotoworkshops.com

I always say that the best photographers in the world are landscape photographers.  Why?  Because we have to work around so many elements that are out of our control.  Rain, snow, sun (or lack thereof), whether or not we are blessed with the right amount of clouds etc.  And then those who decide to incorporate landscape photography into their fashion, wedding etc. have even more of an advantage.

Well, this image was taken at my Yellowstone landscape workshop in June.  Shot with a slow exposure during sunrise to capture the mist and spray coming off of a geyser.

Next up!  Rocky Mountain National Park in 2 weeks!!!!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 4 sec at f/20, ISO 50, flash did not fire.  Taken at 5:46am.

Podcast- Not Getting Discouraged in a world full of "Likes"

New Podcast!!!

http://photographerpodcast.com/2013/07/09/episode-16-not-getting-discouraged-in-a-world-full-of-likes/

Sometimes the most frustrating thing in the world as an artist is to struggle to get people to like your work, only to see a video of a child throwing a toy in the toilet get 3 million likes or views! Jason Lanier discusses the challenges of social media and speaks about how you can gain a steady following of fans for your work. He also discusses how to handle the ups and downs of publishing your work online and how important it is to not get discouraged.

How Did You Get That Shot?

www.funphotoworkshops.com

I get asked a lot how I take my shots....what equipment I use, where I place it etc.  This is a production image and finished image placed side by side to show you exactly what I did to capture this image.  As listed on the photo I used 4 Rotolights (favorite lights ever), 4 MeFoto tripods for my lightstands, 2 Pocket Wizards and my Nikon SB910 Speedlight for backlighting (off camera) flash.

I hope this helps!  As you can see in the picture we go to insane places and do REAL shoots at my workshops which are done all over the U.S.  I'd love to see you at one soon!!

Using MeFoto Tripods as Light Stands

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This production image was taken at my Miami workshop in May of this year....

Earlier this year at WPPI I bought 4 new Rotolights that I love.  After buying them I asked myself, "How in the world am I going to use these when I'm shooting solo?"  I HATE using lightstands because they just don't work (for me) since I travel so much.  It seems that if I use one that's light enough to take "on the go" it's too flimsy.  If I take one that's very durable and steady, it's WAY too heavy.  So what did I do?

The hot new item at WPPI were the MeFoto tripods made by Benro.  I already own a Benro carbon fiber tripod and LOVE it.  So I felt comfortable buying the MeFoto's and using them as lightstands.  My friends laughed at me at the time for buying 4 of them, but I am SO GLAD I did.

Since WPPI 2013 I've taken the MeFoto's with me to Miami, West Virginia, Montana, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and all over California.  The combination of the MeFoto's with my Rotolights or an off camera flash with a Pocket Wizard just can't be beat.

Using Off Camera Flash during the daytime to create awesome drama

www.funphotoworkshops.com

FYI: This image is not HDR.  This is what happens when you expose for the background and use flash to light your subject.  This image was taken at my workshop in Miami in May.  Using my Pocket Wizards I fired my flash off camera which enabled me to set a different exposure level for my overall image.  A great way to create dramatic contrast in your images!

*Online Webinar- How to create your own website for $25/year- next 2 Thursdays

*Estes, Colorado 2 day workshop- July 23, 24

The Ticket Taker at the Warner Theater in Morgantown, WV

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at the old Warner Theater in Morgantown, WV for my workshop there in April.  We did a pin up style shoot, found some old ticket stubs, and put the beautiful Jennifer Blosser behind the counter. I wanted her to have a look like you'd see on someone's face who was bored of working at her job....and I believe she pulled it off.  Fun times!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/60 sec at f/4.0, 35mm at ISO 4000, flash did not fire.  Taken at 4:34pm.

Hollywood Starlet in Morgantown Warner Theater

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in Morgantown, WV of the beautiful Megan Ward.  We had the privilege of shooting inside the theater that is no longer in use, and we had a great time.  This image was taken using my Rotolights with some side lighting to give it a real dramatic look.  We had a great time and I can't wait to go back!

The Sugar Shack Reaper

www.supernaturalshoots.com

This image was taken at the historic Sugar Shack in Moundsville State Penitentiary during my Supernatural Shoot there in April 2013.  We gave the model Rachel black sheets to swirl around and using back and front lighting with flash and video lights I captured this image.

Moundsville is one of my all time favorite places to shoot and I'm so glad I've had the opportunity to do so many times!  Looking to go back next month!!

North Shore Hawaiian Sunset Production Image

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in Oahu, Hawaii off the north shore by my attendee Minori Inoue.  It was a beautiful sunset and she sent me this shot which I REALLY appreciated!  I did a little editing magic on it, but the shot is all hers from what she took in the camera and it shows you just how much you can learn at one of my workshops....:)

Moundsville Mist at a Jason Lanier Supernatural Shoot

www.supernaturalshoots.com

This is a set of 3 images put side by side in Photoshop to show you something pretty interesting from my Supernatural shoot at the Moundsville State Penitentiary back in April 2013.  I shot this with my Nikon D800 which shoots at 4 frames per second, so these 3 shots were literally shot within less than a second of each other, all at 7:20pm, at 42 seconds.

This was of the model Rachel at the penitentiary and it was a blast.  You can decide what you think it is...I just noticed it immediately when I was looking through my pictures in Lightroom.  The mist is to the left of the model, and the only reason the flash didn't fire on the third picture was because it hadn't recycled quickly enough to do so.

The pictures haven't been enhanced in Photoshop, just stitched together side by side for comparison purposes.  Let me know what you think!

True Americana- the 4th of July

www.jasonlanier.com

What is more American than gathering around a huge group of strangers and coming together to celebrate the independence day of our amazing nation?  That's exactly what we did last night, and the fireworks show was amazing.  May God continue to bless America.

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/20 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 800, flash did not fire.  Taken at 9:32pm on July 4, 2013 by Jason Lanier.

A Day at the Park

www.jasonlanier.com

This image was taken at my family shoot for the Huang family in Westlake Village two days ago.  James and Kathryn were my wedding clients from a few years back and they (as do many clients) asked me to take their family portraits.  I love how the very gently swung Mia back and forth as they walked down the bridge of the Pagoda.  I really do love doing family sessions!

Mermaid in Maine

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in Maine/New Hampshire just last week.  We didn't have a mermaid outfit, so this dress was the closest thing we could find to it.  I just loved how it matched the tones of the background rocks and seaweed.  It was an awesome shoot and I can't wait to share more!  This image features the beautiful Belle who was one of our models.
