Thanks to my assistant Joyce for this awesome shot taken at my workshop in West Virginia!!

Looking at you...

www.jasonlanier.com

This image was taken at my children's shoot in Clayton North Carolina earlier this month for Sully and Jefferson.  We were able to shoot at a farm and it was an awesome place to shoot.  With kid shoots you only try to capture what they are doing while giving them parameters that will work for your shoot.  Don't ever try to to completely control them, it just won't work.

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/400 sec at f/4.0, 35mm at ISO 125, flash did not fire.  Taken at 5:35pm on April 1, 2013 by Jason Lanier.

This is MY Place....

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This was taken while I was out doing a workshop in North Carolina earlier this month.  We were granted the opportunity to shoot at Shadowhawk by the owner of the place who was very gracious.  It's an amazing little western town that he built all himself that patterned after many of the sets he worked on as a TV and film actor many years ago.  If you haven't been there you should definitely go...it's awesome!

Reflections of Love

www.jasonlanier.com

This image was taken at my wedding for April and Delano Howell in February at the Odyssey in Los Angeles, CA.  The trick to this shot was getting right underneath the bride and groom and shooting up video light to illuminate them.  The other hard part was keep myself and my camera out of the shot but we managed to pull it off.  Hope you like it!

Starting your career the right way-Podcast

http://photographerpodcast.com/2013/04/24/random-thoughts-on-photography-starting-your-career-the-right-way/

Just released a new podcast on some of my random thoughts from working today.  It's only 8 minutes long, hope you like it!

Casting Call for models in Miami and Oklahoma!

Casting Call for my Miami and Oklahoma Workshops!  If you are interested in a FREE shoot from me this is your chance!  I'm looking for either female models by themselves or couples.  This is for my Miami workshop next week on April 30th and May 1st, and my Oklahoma workshop on May May 7th and 8th.  The following guidelines apply:

*You must be physically fit.  I have shoot concepts and possible wardrobe options that require fit people.  This doesn't mean emaciated.  I like shooting people who are just generally in pretty good shape.  If you have any questions about this just let me know in your email.

*18 years or older- I don't want to mess with stage parents and worry about shooting minors...sorry.  The only exception to this is when I do specific children workshops, and these two in particular are not children photography workshops.

*Time Flexibility- you must have open availability on the day(s) that you shoot with us.  This means you have to be available starting at 12pm and open to ending sometime between 7pm-midnight, my workshops are very flexible on when they end!  You DO NOT have to come to both days of the workshop, just let me know what days you can do.

This is a TF (Time For) shoot meaning you get FREE images from me in exchange for doing the shoot. There will be no financial compensation.

If you would like to be shot (with a camera) and you have some wardrobe options please email me with the following information:

*3 pics of yourself- head, body, and full length (camera phone is fine)
*Email me images of you wearing the wardrobe you intend on using for the shoot.
*Measurements- please provide your measurements and for ladies please provide your cup size (it matters for the wardrobe).
*Let me know if you plan on shooting by yourself or as a couple.
*Contact Information- please provide your email and phone number.

Thanks!

Jason

Happily Ever After

www.jasonlanier.com

This image was taken at the wedding for April and Delano Howell at the Odyssey in Los Angeles, California.  This was just as the ceremony was ending and they were walking back towards me down the center aisle.  I always love to try and capture this moment because it's so powerful.  I love this couple and am so grateful I had the chance to capture their special day!

Camera settings: Nikon D700, 1/80 sec at f/5.6, 44mm at ISO 4000, flash fired.  Taken at 8:33pm on February 15, 2013 by Jason Lanier.

More of my fans buying the Rotolights!

A fan of mine posted this image on Facebook with the following caption:

"Hey photog peeps look what I got!! Thanks for the referral Jason Lanier!!"- Thea Maddox

I hope the folks at Rotolight are paying attention because this is going to start getting bigger!  I personally a lot of folks that have already purchased these lights since I started using them last month after finding them at WPPI.  They are great!

Photographer Tip- Take CONTROL of your REVIEWS!

www.jasonlanierphotographytestimonials.com

Please check out my new testimonial website by clicking above!

Your online presence is SO IMPORTANT!  My advice is to buy a website domain with your name in it like you see it above for me, and collate it all together so your clients can find it all in one place.  Here's why....

As we all know the world today is full of misinformation, lies etc.  We have to worry about competitors, people in our daily lives, etc. who would love nothing more than to cause us some pain by writing a fake review online about our business.

In case you didn't know, Yelp is completely fake.  They filter out the good reviews you receive and keep the bad ones unless you agree to advertise with them.  If I deserve a bad review that's fine, unfortunately the vast majority of them are fake.  I have reviews where people say I hit on the girls at the wedding and got drunk....LOL.  For anyone who knows me I've never even had a drink in my life.

So take control of your destiny and what's being said about you online...it's so important!!

A Stage To Her Own...at the Metropolitan Theater in West Virginia

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at the Metropolitan Theater in Morgantown, West Virginia during my workshop there last week.  It was an amazing workshop and we got to shoot in so many unique locations that it just seemed to never end.  For this shot I used off camera flash to light her from the back and used my Sony video lights to light her from the front.  Thanks to all who came and to Jenn for modeling!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/100 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 4000, flash fired.  Taken at 7:10pm on April 17, 2013 by Jason Lanier.

Best Production Shot Competition

This amazing image was provided to me courtesy of Steven Squires who is one of my photographers and is also affectionately known as, "Squirts."  Or if you're being formal you would call him, "Ginger Squirts."

This image was taken at my workshop in Nevada last month.  I'm going to hold a competition for the best production shot taken at one of my workshops this year.  The Page will vote on the images to determine a winner in concert with my thoughts as well.  The winner will win something super cool that I will decide upon once the competition begin.

Thanks for the great shot Squirts!!

Signing my life away at the Hotel Morgan....literally

www.funphotoworkshops.com

While in Morgantown, West Virginia this past week we had the amazing opportunity to shoot inside of the shut down and historic Warner Theather in downtown Morgantown.  The theater is owned by the Hotel Morgan, so in order for us to get the keys to the place I had to sign a release pretty much stating that if I died it was my fault and no one could sue the hotel.  It was totally worth it.  A HUGE THANKS to Susan Riddle for helping us make the arrangements to get in there and for Megan Ward for helping to connect all the communication dots so I could even speak to Susan in the first place.  I totally wanna shoot there again!!!

Off Camera Flash at the Moundsville State Penitentiary

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my Supernatural Shoot at the Moundsville State Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia earlier this week for my workshop there.  To get this shot I had my assistant Joyce holding my SB910 Flash with the Ray Flash accessory on it, and then with my Pocket Wizards I triggered the flash off camera blasting the light through the fence to create a really cool look.  Thanks to the beautiful Rachel Anne for modeling and for Ryan Britt for getting us into the penitentiary!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/160 sec at f/4.0, 27mm at ISO 800, flash fired.  Taken at 7:24pm on April 16, 2013 by Jason Lanier.

Who smiles while locked inside of a penitentiary?

www.funphotoworkshops.com

It was all smiles at my workshop this week in West Virginia.  To make it even better we did our Supernatural shoot at the Moundsville State Penitentiary and as we started it began to rain.  I wanted to do a shoot in between the fence and the building, but as soon as we began the rain, thunder, and lightning came, so we moved our shoot indoors for an amazing time.  If you haven't been on a Supernatural shoot with me you are truly missing out.  Seriously the funnest thing I do at every workshop!

Nature's Lens Hood...my hand

www.funphotoworkshops.com

Nothing's better than going back to the basics when doing a photo shoot!  This production image was taken at my workshop in West Virginia earlier this week.  We found an abandoned little house on the side of the road and after working our way around bees, wasps, and barking dogs, we started doing a great shoot together.  Can't wait to share more pics!

Shooting on a Hay Rake in West Virginia

www.funphotoworkshops.com

Production image from my workshop in West Virginia this week.  I just love shooting back East because it can be so much easier to find locations and get the approval to shoot in these areas than it can be in California.  Can't wait to share more pics!

Moundsville Penitentiary Model Shoot in "The Hole"

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my Supernatural Shoot in Moundsville, West Virginia at the Moundsville State Penitentiary.  The lighting for this shot was achieved by placing 1 Rotolight behind the model (the beautiful Rachel Anne) and then we used two Rotolights on the left and right in front.  No flash was used for this shoot and it was pitch black down in there except for the Rotolights.

This was shot in the solitary confinement section of the prison also known as "The Hole" where many prisoners took their last breath.  We found this chair down there, draped the model in a bed sheet, and started shooting.  I love creating something out of nothing and we worked to do just that with this shoot.  The water on the floor was thanks to the heavy rain we received during the shoot which made this even better.  Hope you like it!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/125 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 6400, flash did not fire.  Taken at 10:32pm on April 16, 2013 by Jason Lanier at the Moundsville State Penitentiary.

Shooting in Solitary Confinement

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This is a production still from my Supernatural Shoot at the Moundsville State Penitentiary this week.  We were taken down to "The Hole" where they kept the real bad dudes.  Since it was raining hard that day it leaked and there was 2 inches of water all over the floor.  With the use of my trusty Rotolights and MeFoto Tripods, we were able to shoot in pitch black darkness.  Just an unbelievable experience!!!!

Next Workshops: Miami, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain National Park and more!

Supernatural Group Shot

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This is a group shot taken at the Moundsville State Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia.  I always love doing the group shots, and just like I try to do at weddings, we always try to make them a little fun and different than just sitting there.  Thanks to all who came!  I'm trying to set one up for my workshop in Miami....

Prisoner's Perspective at the Moundsville State Penitentiary

www.funphotoworkshops.com

I snapped this shot of my group as they were taking a break during my Supernatural Shoot at the Moundsville State Penitentiary.  I was on the upper levels just outside of the jail cells and was starting to work my way down when I saw them and took the picture.  This is  a good representation of what these shoots are like.  It was pitch black and the only illumination on this shot came from the two Rotolights that we were using as flashlights at the time.  Y'all have to join me on one of these, they are so much fun!

Walmart Fashion in a haunted prison

This image was taken at my Supernatural Shoot at the Moundsville State Penitentiary on Tuesday.  This was shot without flash, using three Rotolights, one behind her and two in front, to the left and the right.  I had a challenge from the group to do a shoot using Walmart clothes...so I took the challenge, went into the local Walmart about 10 miles from the penitentiary and in 20 minutes bought the hat, skirt, jacket, and did the shoot!

We had an amazing time and I thank everyone who came to shoot with me.  This Supernatural shoot was truly unforgettable!

Who does a fashion shoot in a haunted penitentiary? Well, me.

www.funphotoworkshops.com

So who else does model fashion shoots inside of haunted places like the Moundsville State Penitentiary...just me baby. This is a production still from the Supernatural shoot on Tuesday that was literally out of this world.  It was straight out of a movie, a thunder and lightning storm moved into town immediately as we arrived, and we went around calling for the ghosts it started to pour, as soon as we stopped, it stopped.  Don't believe me?  We have all the video to prove it.

In this shot you see our gorgeous model Rachel who I was posing at the visitation booths where they would use a telephone handset to talk to the prisoner on the other side of the wall.  Just wait until I start showing you shots from "The Hole" where I had one of the best shoots I've ever done.  Because of the thunder storm the water leaked through the walls and down into "The Hole" which was isolation where they locked up the prisoners who were the worst of the worst. With the water coming down the walls it left 2 inches of water on the dirt floor...it was just epic.  Can't wait to edit and post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for these amazing Rotolights....I need to buy stock in their company because all my students are buying them!  Thanks to all my assistants Vanden, Faye and Joyce for doing so much...I love you guys.

Next Workshops:

  • Miami, Florida- April 30, May 1st
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, May 7th and 8th
  • REAL Wedding Workshop- May 31, and June 1st in Moundsville, West Virginia

My Journey Through Scotland

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken along a lone road in Scotland about 150 miles north of Edinburgh.  Scotland is such an amazing place that I've decided that my next webinar series will be a tutorial on landscapes, as seen through my own journey through Scotland.  Stay tuned for details.

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/160 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 2000, flash did not fire. Taken at 4:53pm on January 6, 2013 in Scotland by Jason Lanier.

Let's Saddle Up the Horses...

www.funphotoworkshops.com- Don't forget to sign up for my webinar on shooting weddings that is happening tonight!

This image was taken at my children's shoot in Clayton, North Carolina of my two favorite little cowboys, Sully and Jefferson.  This was such a fun shoot because we were able to do this at a real farm with all the fixings...and later on we took shots with horses and cows as well.  Such a great time and thanks to their Mom Jaime Ackley who flies me out there once a year to take their images...I just love shooting these guys!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/1250 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 50, flash did not fire.  Taken at 4:44pm on April 1, 2013 by Jason Lanier.

When a Cowboy Wants a Cowgirl

Production image of my shoot yesterday in Western Town in North Carolina.  This married couple was so much fun...and I can honestly say in all the shoots I've ever done, I've never heard a husband more eager to be romantic with his wife more than this shoot.  Scott really does love Jodi.  Fun times!

Shooting inside a billiard hall in Western Town Shadowhawk

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This is a production image from my shoot yesterday in Western Town Shadowhawk where we were able to shoot inside and outside of this amazing place.  The owner Wild Bill is a retired actor and is really a cool guy.  If you are anywhere nearby the area it really is an AWESOME place to shoot!
