Sandstorm by Jason Lanier

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in Nevada earlier this month after WPPI.  It was one of the funnest shoots I've ever done and we are creating a video on it as we speak.  We got the sand effect the natural way...by having a car drive by and kick up dust!  Thanks to all who came and for the amazing Gwen Garci and Tylor Perry for being such excellent models....

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/2000 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 50, flash did not fire.

Night Wedding Photography in the Nevada Desert

www.funphotoworkshops.com

Who says you can't do wedding photographt at night?  This image was taken at my workshop in Nevada earlier this month right after WPPI.  It was an amazing workshop culminating with this night shoot where we used a Rotolight to backlight the beautiful Erin Calderon, and just used ambient light for the front.  I posed Erin, with the express intent on having the veil capture the light.  Hope you like it!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/50 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 8063, flash did not fire.  Taken at 7:40pm on March 15, 2013 by Jason Lanier in Nevada.

Composites with Photoshop by Jason Lanier

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This composite was created in Photoshop from my shoot in Nevada at my workshop there earlier this month.  This is the result of combining 4 shots into one, with each one of the shots of the car being a separate shot that I took as the car was driving by.  These were shot with my D800 and you can see that it still gives you plenty of speed as it relates to your frames per second if you need it.  While it's not my D3, there are very few times you need a camera that fast.

I put these together in Photoshop by using layer and masks, no special software other than that.  I also used a lower opacity on the images of the car further away to give it the look like it's a little bit of a ghost effect.  Hope you like it!

Passion in the Desert by Jason Lanier

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in Nevada where we did a shoot with Gwen Garci and Tylor Perry.  It was an awesome workshop where we worked on shooting the couple.  I can't thank everyone who came enough for coming and sharing such an awesome shoot with me!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/800 sec at 4/4.0, 31mm at ISO 50, flash did not fire.

Chevy Camaro SS by Jason Lanier

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in Nevada earlier this month.  I made arrangements with Lisa Taylor for her to bring her SS to our shoot and boy am I glad we did.  This is a beautiful car and we had an amazing shoot with it.  This is what it looked like before we got CRAZY and started posing with it, driving it, etc.  Awesome shoot!  Thanks Lisa for letting us use your Camaro!!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/1250 sec at f/4.0, 22mm at ISO 50, flash did not fire.

Bridezillas in Las Vegas

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my meet up shoot in Las Vegas during WPPI!  Virtually one of the only spots to shoot in Vegas without someone trying to kick you off the property is the skybridge that connects everything and that's because it's public land.  I positioned the two beautiful models Bijou and Erin  in front of the scrolling billboard and just waited for the right one to come through to be able to get the shot...oh, and I told the girls to fight.  It was a great time and can't wait to do more!!!

WaitingTo Elope by Jason Lanier

www.funphotoworkshops.com

This image was taken at my workshop in Las Vegas earlier this month during WPPI.  Being that Vegas is the eloping capitol of the world, I felt it appropriate to capture a bride waiting for her groom to arrive.  Now that Vegas has all these sky bridges you can really get some amazing perspectives and shots like this one!

Come With Me to the Moundsville State Penitentiary

This image was taken at my bonus night session while I was doing my workshop out in West Virginia last year.  The great thing about doing these bonus sessions is that it gives you the opportunity to practice from very difficult lighting scenarios that most people can't or won't do.  Best of all is that since it's at a workshop you are free to try everything and test some things without worrying about screwing something up for a paid client!  This image was taken at the end of our shoot and it was just a BLAST!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/30 sec at f/4.0, 16mm at ISO 10159, flash fired.  Taken at 11:34pm on October 24, 2012 by Jason Lanier at the Moundsville State Penitentiary.

Angel in the Sugar Shack at the Moundsville State Penitentiary

www.funphotoworkshops.com

One thing that we love to do at my workshops are bonus night sessions where we go to a Supernatural site and do a model shoot inside of the place.  There's nothing evil about it, we don't do any seances or use any ouija boards, it's just good natured fun in a place that will get your excitement level up.  This was taken at the Moundsville State Penitentiary at my workshop there in October, and the place is absolutely amazing.  We backlit our beautiful model Yvonne using my Sony video lights and used flash for the front lighting.  It was an awesome time, and we're going back next month!!!!

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/20 sec at f/4.0, 28mm at ISO 3200, flash fired.  Taken at 9:14pm on October 24, 2012 by Jason Lanier.

Buckwild in West Virginia

www.funphotoworkshops.com

If you guys aren't coming to my workshop in West Virginia in 3 weeks, this is the kind of stuff you'll be missing.  This was taken at my workshop in West Virginia last October, and it's always a crazy time when we're there!  Don't miss out on this crazy opportunity!!!  By the way, this image was only processed with Lightroom, no Photoshop.

Camera settings: Nikon D800, 1/200 sec at f/4.0, 35mm at ISO 3200, flash fired.  Taken at 6:33pm on October 23, 2012 by Jason Lanier.

This is why your assistants need to be great photographers too!

This outstanding image was provided to me by my assistant Joyce at my workshop in Nevada.  It is now tied for my favorite production image ever!  I look like I belong on CSI Miami with David Caruso or something walking through the dust.  The dust trail you see was left by the Camaro that went speeding down the way...and I walked right behind it to get the shots of the bride and groom.  It was totally awesome and I'm so grateful to my awesome assistant for giving me this outrageous shot!!

Love at the Speed of Sound

This image was taken at my workshop in Nevada earlier this month.  It was an absolutely amazing workshop and to date one of my favorite shoots ever!  This is what it's like to come to one of my workshops....REAL SHOOTS!  Thanks to the amazing Gwen Garci and Tylor Perry for being our models and to Lisa Taylor for the use of her Camaro SS.  Just outrageous how fun this shoot was!!!!

Boudoir Photography by Ginger Squirts at a Jason Lanier Workshop

Ever wanted to do boudoir photography at one of my workshops?  Well, apparently Ginger Squirts aka Steven Squires couldn't contain himself and started a boudoir shoot with Faye Santos at my workshop in San Francisco.  Since they are both technically my "photography children" it made this shoot even more awkward.  Regardless, it shows you that nothing is off limits at my workshops!!

Reflectors Make A Difference!!!

This is a production shot from my workshop in Nevada from 2012.  As I'm going through all my shots for my new website I just can't stop from posting a few production shots to impress upon all of you how important it is to use the proper tools to get amazing results.  Get a reflector if you do ANY work outside....it really is that important....thanks to my man Kyle Bowen for being such a great reflector holder!!

If you can't tell I'm going through all my workshop images as we get the new website ready!  The cool thing about the new website is that you'll be able to download all the Behind the Scenes and Group Shots for your own personal use which is something my workshop attendees have been requesting for a long time...and now you'll be able to do it!!  Had such a great time at this workshop.  Need to do San Fran again!

Cha Cha's Night Club Coney Island

This pin up image of Megan Ward was taken at my workshop in New York at Coney Island.  We had an amazing time and by the time we got to Coney Island it was late at night, but that didn't stop us from shooting!  I used off camera flash for this shot from the left triggered by my Pocket Wizards.  I can't wait to go back to NY again!!

Causing a Scene in Times Square

This is a production image from my workshop in New York last May.  There was an occupy wall street protest going on and when we started shooting they started screaming incredible vulgarities at us and the models.  So with that challenge in hand I placed the models directly in front of the protesters and then we had "a moment".

I'm all for free speech, but that means for everyone.  If they can be there, so can we.  I wouldn't have done anything except for the fact that they started saying the nastiest things men can say to women, so we responded back with red, white, and blue pin up outfits and a shoot.  You will see the protestors in the finished images that I share, but I wanted to share a production shot to show you all how big of a crowd we started to draw.  It was a moment I'll never forget!

Attack of the Killer Bubble!!

This image was taken in Central Park at my workshop in New York last year.  I'll be planning a NY workshop there again so you New Yorkers please let me know who's interested in coming!  As I posted earlier we met a gentleman named Bubbles who helped create these amazing killer bubbles.  I'm so proud of the models because when these things popped it would just spray all over them...but they were really great sports about the whole thing.  Stay tuned for details on a NY workshop!!!

Bursting Your Bubble

This image was taken at my workshop in New York in May of last year.  Now that I'm going through all of these images it just makes me want to do another workshop in NY because it was just an outrageous time.  We were in Central Park and came upon this gentleman who called himself "Bubbles" who was indeed the bubble man.  Some of the bubbles he made were longer than 30 feet...that's no joke.  The man had skills.  It was an amazing time and now I've got to schedule something for NY!!!!

This image was taken last year at my workshop in New York.  This was on the first night when I was shooting the models in front of the American Flag display.  I need to get another workshop scheduled in the Big Apple because it was such an unreal workshop!  For this shot I used lighting by the video lights, and the model Megan Ward was backlit by the display.

"You must photoshop a lot to make your images look that good!" No, I just know how to shoot.

www.funphotoworkshops.com

I get asked all the time to post images pre-edited so I thought I'd post this one from my workshop in West Virginia last year as a side by side with the completely edited image.  I'm not trying to be cocky, I'm trying to show you all that if you take the time to learn and put in a lot of hard work your images should not require that much post processing at all.  If I taught a photography school I wouldn't allow any students to even start editing classes until they showed great aptitude and ability in the photography skills.

STOP RELYING ON PHOTOSHOP.  AS LONG YOU DO YOUR WORK WILL FALL SHORT.

Walking on Water...

As I'm working on the new workshops website, I came across this pic and wanted to share it again because it's still one of my all time favorites.  This was shot on the Bonneville Salt Flats right after a rain storm and we had about 3 miles of 2-inch deep water...just amazing!  Everything in this shot is real...just wanna set the record straight in case anyone thought otherwise....Thanks to the beautiful Jasmine Cardon for being a superb model...and later on became a Jason Lanier bride!

REAL Wedding Portfolio Building Workshop at America's Taj Mahal in West Virginia

REAL WEDDING WORKSHOP IN MOUNDSVILLE, WEST VIRGINIA ON JUNE 1, 2013 AT THE PALACE OF GOLD, AMERICA'S TAJ MAHAL. ONLY $399 FOR THIS UNBELIEVABLE EVENT!!!!!

http://www.meetup.com/Meet-Ups-with-Jason-Lanier/events/110294502/

Have you ever wanted to shoot a wedding with an award winning photographer and get his pointers throughout the entire wedding? Have you ever wanted to shoot a real wedding at a venue where award winning photographers shoot? Have you ever wanted to attend a workshop and keep the images to build your own portfolio? Well, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!!

The Ceremony is going to be held at the Palace of Gold, America's Taj Mahal. The Reception will be held in the Moundsville State Penitentiary (now a historical site) both of which are located in Moundsville, West Virginia. The venues are so unique for this workshop that your prospective wedding clients will be BEGGING you to shoot their wedding when they see your images!

Award winning photographer Jason Lanier is combining two of his key areas of expertise, shooting weddings and teaching photographers into 1 amazing workshop. The REAL Wedding Portfolio Building Workshop is your chance to shoot along side Jason, get help with your images, get instructions as the wedding unfolds, and KEEP the images for your own portfolio to show everyone just how awesome you are so you can go and book amazing weddings for yourself.

The wedding is on Saturday June 1st and will be amazing! Jason carefully picks the weddings that he will use for workshops taking into account the ceremony and reception venues as well as insuring that the couple gives him the appropriate amount of time to allow the group to do an amazing couple shoot on the wedding day so he can take full advantage of everything the venues have to offer.

But that's not all! Jason has planned an engagement, bridal getting ready, and bridal shoots the day before the wedding (Friday- Day 1 of the workshop) so you can have a COMPLETE wedding portfolio of the wedding clients for your own marketing purposes.

BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THIS WORKSHOP CAN BENEFIT ALL SKILL LEVELS. For those who are just starting out this will be incredibly eye opening. For those who have shot weddings and are looking for that next step...THIS. IS. IT.

FAQ's

*Where is the nearest major airport? Pittsburgh, PA which is only a little over an hour away.

*Is there shuttle service provided? No there is not, you will need to rent a car or carpool with someone else that is attending. I try to keep the cost down and the best way to do that is by not making all the travel expenses inclusive in the price because different attendees have different budgets. We will certainly help you if you are looking for someone to bunk up with or for a carpool buddy. The meet up site enables you to send messages to all those who are attending so it's easy to find someone if that's what you're looking for!

*So do I get to use all the images I take at the workshop for my own use...really? Yep! That's the entire concept behind this specific type of workshop. I'm trying to help photographers to pursue their dream of having killer portfolios so they can further their career.

*Do I have to handle my own travel accommodations and expenses? Yes you do. I will inform the group of where I'm staying so they can be close to me if preferred.

*Do I have to pay the entire $399 upfront? What is the refund policy? Yes you do have to pay the entire tuition upfront. Refunds are provided only in the event that the workshop was canceled by Jason.

*I'm just beginning, will I really get a lot out of this workshop? Yes you will! I truly wish there would have been this type of wedding workshop available when I started because it would have saved me from making so many mistakes in my career.

*I'm a seasoned pro, will this help? Absolutely! Need to spice up your portfolio? Need to get out of the rut? Need an entirely different look and feel for your style and portfolio? This is for you!

*Is there any preparatory information or services provided before the workshop? Yes, Jason will hold online webinars with all paid attendees prior to the workshop to help prepare them for everything they are going to encounter.

*Are there any discounts if I bring a group? Yes there are! Jason will provide a 10% discount for any groups that book together that are 3 people or more.

*What is the maximum amount of people allowed? There will be a cap of 10 attendees to allow everyone time and space to get great shots. Jason has taught workshops for years to groups larger than 10 and is versed in making sure everyone has an opportunity to get great shots and learning experiences.

*Will I get to use the engagement, bridal getting ready, and bridal portrait sessions for my portfolio as well? Yep!

*How will I get a release from the bride and groom? Jason will coordinate a release between all the attendees and the wedding couple prior to the wedding workshop. You will receive a signed copy at the workshop for your records. There is no extra charge for the release.

*Are there any extra fees associated with the workshop that I should know about? Nope! Jason keeps it very simple. Jason's team will be shooting video and documenting the wedding workshop. That video will be made available for purchase after the workshop. You are not required to buy the video but if you want it, it will help you!

Send me your production images!!!!

If you would like your production images included in the new Workshops Website so you can be famous like me, please send them to me ASAP!  You are more than free to watermark the image for the credit you deserve.  I would recommend that you don't over-watermark it because on the website it isn't even possible to right click or download the images...so that need isn't there.  Send them to me via Dropbox or my email at jason@jlpros.com...and don't send them super low res because they won't display well.  I will take care of re-sizing if needed.

This shot was provided by the Squatch Hunter Maryann Spillman from my workshop in South Carolina while I was working with the beautiful model Rachel Bryancz.  We rented out a warehouse and shot there for hours....it was awesome!!!
